Dedication Ceremony and Renaming of the Leadership Academy Classroom
The Omega Boys Club celebrated the renovation of its classroom on Tuesday, September 21, 2011 with a dedication ceremony and renaming of the Leadership Academy classroom.
Omega’s Leadership Academy Class room is now “Coach” Wilbur Jiggetts Hall, in memory of the man who was an inspiration and guiding light for so many of the young men and women who were fortunate to be inspired by his presence. His “coachisms” (wise sayings) are the cornerstone of the work that takes place at Omega.
His widow, Mrs. Gloria Jiggetts, his daughter Theresa, former staff, alumni, new and returning students were all in attendance for a moving evening. Omega’s operations manager and alumnus, Andre Aikins kicked off the evening with a ceremonial ribbon cutting of the renovated classroom. Alumnus Mike Gibson shared his story about his first meeting with “Coach” when he was in the California Youth Authority and how his influence guided him to Omega, thus leading him to attend and graduate from Morehouse College.
Mrs. Jiggetts ended the evening by welcoming the new Omega students, reminding them to never give up.
